A Sweet Spot for Buda: The Search for Our Community’s Next Big Thing

Buda, we’re on a mission, and it’s a deliciously important one. As a developer building a new destination retail site at the bustling Buda roundabout, I’m looking for unique and exciting businesses to call our home. We want to create a place that’s more than just a shopping center—we want to build a community hub. And right at the top of our wish list is a candy store.

But not just any candy store. We’re dreaming of a place that feels like a destination, a spot where families make memories, where the air is thick with the scent of sugar, and where every visit is a little trip down memory lane. We’re looking for a shop that will become a true landmark for Buda.

To get the ball rolling, we’re putting out a call to some of the best in the business. We’ve been doing our research and a few names keep popping up as the gold standard for Texas candy.

Our Dream List of Sweet Tenants:

  • Big Top Candy Shop (Austin): Brandon Hodge, your circus-themed wonder is a true Austin icon. With over 2,000 types of candy and a vintage soda fountain, your store is a whimsical masterpiece. We’d love to talk to you about bringing a little bit of that magic to Buda. www.bigtopcandyshop.com
  • Lammes Candies (Austin): The Teich family has been a Texas institution since 1885, and their Texas Chewie Pecan Pralines are the stuff of legend. Pam, Bryan, and Lana, your family’s commitment to quality and tradition is exactly the kind of heritage we want to build on. www.lammes.com
  • Alamo Candy Company (San Antonio): Felix and Juanita Samame, your family-owned business is a San Antonio treasure, especially with its unique mix of American and Mexican candies. The dedication you and your children, Patty, Rick, and Willie, have to creating new concoctions is inspiring. We think Buda is ready for your brand of sweet and spicy. www.alamocandy.com
  • Hey Sugar (Roanoke, Celina & more): From a small airstream to a beloved Texas chain, the story of Hey Sugar is pure inspiration. Chan Buie, your focus on nostalgic candies and creating a fun atmosphere is a perfect fit for our vision. https://www.heysugarcandy.com
  • Blooms Candy & Soda Pop Shop (Carrollton): John and Nicole, you’ve transformed a flower shop into a candy wonderland, and your passion for retro sodas and nostalgic treats is contagious. We’re captivated by your unique story and would love to hear how you could bring that same vibe to the heart of Buda. www.candycarrollton.com
  • La King’s Confectionery (Galveston): Jack King, your recreation of an old-fashioned confectionery is a true historical gem. The magic of watching taffy being made on century-old equipment is an experience we believe Buda would cherish. https://lakingsconfectionery.com/
